Publishers and vloggers all over the world monetized by Google Adsense are worried about their payment for the month of March, which they are supposed to receive on the third week of December 2023.
As
bloggers, we have a monthly obligation to pay, whether it’s a mortgage, rent,
loan, or bill, and a delayed payout can negatively affect our expectations,
especially when we are accustomed to receiving it on time.
If
you check your Google AdSense account under payment, you will see “Automatic
payment: Bank transfer to bank account xxx.”
At
this point, you will logically ask yourself whether there’s something wrong
with your bank account or whether it’s the weekend or holidays.
As
long as you meet the minimum threshold, Google Adsense will issue a payment
receipt on the 21st to 26th of the month and pay within a specified time frame
based on the publisher’s time zone.
In
Asian countries, publishers receive their payment receipt on the 21st day and
are paid on the 23rd day of the same month.
There
are, however, good reasons why payment might be late. This could be because the
payment date falls on a holiday or weekend, or because the publisher’s
preferred method of payment is delayed because of a bank policy or system
maintenance.
In
order to determine why Google AdSense paid us late this month, we must now look
into the possible causes.
1.
Google Adsense Payment History
The
month of November has been an issue for several publishers due to the one
holiday that falls within the payout period.
The
United States (where google is located) observes Thanksgiving Day as a national
holiday for the many blessings bestowed upon the country over the years.
Thanksgiving
is on the 24th of November, followed by Black Friday on the 25th. These days
are crucial for publishers who rely solely on Google AdSense.
The
first time that Google Adsense delayed payment was in November of 2018 and
2022, and on November 27th, several publishers reported that they had begun
receiving payment.
2.
Updating mode of payment
The publisher has the
option to choose the preferred form of payment. It can be through a check, wire
transfer, or electronic fund transfer (EFT).
Google’s policy has always
been that if you need to change your payment details, you must do so by the
20th of the month, or else the change won’t take effect until the next payment
period.
3. Failure to comply with
tax information
Google requires all
publishers and youtubers to submit tax information, and failure to do so will
result in payment being held.
If your payments are on
hold because you need to enter tax information and you submit that information
after the 20th of the month, you will not be eligible for a payment in that
month’s payment cycle; instead, it will be in the next month.
Of all the three possible
reasons mentioned above, the first one is always the most common.
The best way to stay up to
date on the payment is to subscribe to the Google AdSense Help Community in
your AdSense account, where several publishers, content creators, and YouTubers
from around the world have shared their experiences.
Several publishers posted in the AdSense community that they had already received a payment receipt and email notification but that it had not yet reflected on their bank account.
On October 6, 2022,
Governor Gavin Newsom signed Assembly Bill
No. 2596, which recognizes the Lunar New Year or Chinese
New Year celebrated every 22nd day of January as an official state holiday in
California. Since Google’s headquarters are located in California, it is safe
to assume that there will be a delay in the payment.
Upon knowing all of the
above information, I called the bank and clarified the matter of whether I have
restrictions or other issues that may prevent my account from receiving money
internationally.
The bank’s customer
service said that the issue is not on their end but rather with the third-party
bank, or what we called the intermediary bank.
When money is sent from
one country to another, a third-party bank usually acts as a middleman between
the sending and receiving banks.
For example, if your
intermediary bank is located in Singapore,
which is celebrating Chinese New Year from January 23–24, then the business day
starts on January 25.
Again, Google’s policy
cannot consider this as delayed payment because the payout period runs from the
21st to the 26th of the month. However, because of personal obligations, our
expectations of the payment scheme frustrate us.
